Hi All: Sorry this was late. No WiFi last night. We got on the road about 0900 from the campground in Whitehorse. The road was pretty bad all the way from there on. Lots of frost heaves that would make the Motor Home leave the ground if you went the speed limit. Lots of highway work, tearing up the road and putting down tar and gravel over it, then they let the traffic go over it to level it out. Little rock flying everywhere. Bob did loose his 4 headlight on those gravel spots.
The sight were still awsome. Beautiful LARGE mountains covered with Ice and Snow. Saw some Grizzly Bears on this trip. Bob slowed down saying there was something on the road and it turned out to be a mother bear and two cubs crossing the road. Got a few photo's of them. Will try to get a couple on this blog. Went down a little farther and found two black bears moving along the road. Got a couple shots of that too..
Rained on us off and on and windy as heck. Crossed the Alaska border and lost another hour, so we are 4 hours behind you all back on the east coast. Our phone is not supposed to be free here in Alaska from what I can understand of the map I have. They charge Roaming of .50 and long distance of .50 per minute. Amy plans to make a couple calls, and I'll check the bill on line to see if they do charge us that. I'm on the "North American Plan" and the last time I looked Alaska was still part of North America. We'll see. Haven't tried to use the phone in the car yet. It's only .20 a minute and we have a couple hundred minutes paid for on it. Might try tomorrow...or the next day.
Bob couldn't get his antenna for his TV working at the campground, so he watched movies. We did to. He had lent us one that we watched. The campground had picked up 5 TV stations on satellite, and rebroadcast them at the campground on regular Antenna signal. But they choice of channels were pretty poor...Hope tomorrow in Fairbanks is better.
It was after 2300 before I got to sleep, and it was real light out. The sun seems to never go away up here. Guess it will be lighter longer as we get farther North. Glad it's not the winter time here now....
Semper Fi.
