Hi From Alaska: We got up early again and got to the bus station in the park to meet our bus for our trip thru Denali National Park. Hoping to see Mount McKinley. Well, it was cloudy all day and we didn't get to see the big mountain. The bus driver said that only about 20% of the people ever get to see the mountain, as it makes it's own weather, and it's hardly ever clear and sunny.
The trip was very good. It was in a School Type Bus, and it rode pretty good. The road started out paved, but soon was gravel like a lot of the roads, then went to single road where we had to get to the side to let the other busses coming the other way past. Made it interesting some times as the side of the road was at the top of some hundreds of feet straight down. Good trip.
The photo showing a Caribou in the weeds was the closest animal we say except the snowshoe rabbits that were all over the road. The bus was able to make the whole trip without hitting one of the little devils??. Saw a lot of Caribou, and Dall Sheep from far far away. Glad I took the field glasses. Oh yea, we did see a Momma wolf and 5 cubs eating a caribou they had killed along one of the rivers. That was a once in a lifetime thing to see. The bus driver said he has never seen anything like that in all his years here. No Moose, or bears on the whole trip. But no matter, we have seen our moose and bears. The trip was real good. Especially since it was only $60 for two, and the trip to the Arctic was $340.00, and took just about as long and as interesting.
We leave for Anchorage in the morning. Tried to make reservations at a campground there, but no one would answer the phone. Left a message, but not sure if we will have a place to stay when we get there or not. There are a few campgrounds there, but hoped to get in this one. We'll see. Mighty have to find a WalMart to camp in their parking lot. Hee Hee..
The sign is the sign for the campground we are in here in Denali, the one with Amy and I are along the ride somewhere today. Beautiful country.. Sorry we didn't get to see the big mountain.
Semper Fi.
